Admission to this program has been suspended. Any students interested in Latin American and Latino Studies can now opt to complete a minor in Global Studies, with a focus on the Americas and the Spanish language.
Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) is a multidisciplinary program focused on the appreciation and understanding of the Hispanic experience in the Americas. Specifically, LALS focuses on Latin American and Caribbean countries, Latinos in the United States, and migrations and other transnational processes in the Americas from colonial times to the present.
The program draws on the expertise of scholars at The Catholic University of America across the fields of anthropology, arts, economics, history, modern languages, music, politics, psychology, sociology, and theology and religious studies, among others. It also draws on the rich resources of the Oliveira Lima library and University Archives.
LALS undergraduate students have two academic tracks they can pursue:
- a LALS minor, or
- a LALS certificate
