Welcome to the Arts and Sciences Internship and Experiential Learning webpage!
The aims of this page are to provide students with best practices of how to select internships and to promote internships specifically suited for students enrolled in the School of Arts and Sciences.
We have also provided a guide to the steps students can take to enhance career development during enrollment at Catholic University and instructions for enrolling in the Internship course through the School of Arts and Sciences which enables students to make the most of your internship experience.
Students are encouraged to complete two internships for credit during their enrollment at Catholic University during the fall, spring or summer. Internships provide the following benefits to students:
- Allow students to gain valuable experience and develop relationships, mentors and professional networking opportunities.
- Experience different organizational cultures to determine the one that best suits their personality and career goals.
- Earn professional references and identify potential full time job opportunities.
- Develop both their content knowledge and skills that are essential to a professional career including but not limited to, critical thinking, communication, appreciation of diversity, emotional intelligence, active listening, collaboration, cooperation, problem solving, analysis, synthesis, the ability to advocate for oneself, be an actively engaged learner and take responsibility for one’s actions and understand how your actions and decisions impact those around you in the workplace.
Students are encouraged to notify the School of Arts and Sciences prior to the start of classes if they have secured an internship. Application deadlines are the last day of add/drop for the spring and fall semester, although the earlier you apply, the better, as the School of Arts and Sciences will have to send the employer a contract and you will have to sign a contract and checklist as well.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything related to internships and experiential learning, please reach out to Lisa O'Quinn, Assistant Dean for Community Engagement, Outreach, and Experiential Learning, at oquinnlr@cua.edu.
