Explore Life at Every Level — From Molecules to Medicine

The Biology Department trains students to become contemporary, molecular-based scientists with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Students graduate ready to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage with the most pressing biological questions of our time.

Student Spotlights

Our students and alumni are leading discoveries and making an impact in medicine, research, and biotechnology:

  • Madison C., (Class of 2026) — participated in the Morristown Medical Center Department of Surgery Summer Student Fellowship, observing a range of procedures including a C-section.

  • Mia P. (Class of 2025) — admitted to Pace University’s Lenox Hill PA Program in New York City.

  • Blake B. (Class of 2025) — applying to physical therapy school after serving as a Patient Care Technician at Ascension Medical Group – St. Thomas Hospital.

  • Ben C. and Brian H. (Class of 2026), student-athletes — conducting research on drug repurposing for rare diseases.

  • Sebastian C., (Class of 2026)— participating in clinical rounds at the NIH Undiagnosed Diseases Program to learn about real-world approaches to rare conditions.

  • Jane G., (Class of 2025)— now a Research Technologist in the Weng Lab at Johns Hopkins University, applying her biochemistry training to study how membrane tension affects development.

Where Our Graduates Go

Biology graduates pursue diverse and rewarding paths, including:

  • Medical and health-related fields (clinical labs, hospitals, NIH, physician offices)

  • Professional programs (medicine, nursing, dental, veterinary, physical therapy, physician assistant)

  • Graduate study (biology, biotechnology, marine biology, forensic science)

  • Research and industry roles, including Johns Hopkins University, NIH, and more

  • Emergency medicine and fieldwork (EMT, environmental science, public health)

Recent Internships and Research

Our students gain hands-on experience in research and clinical settings, including:

  • Morristown Medical Center Department of Surgery

  • Vet Medical Center and Hospital/Dental Shadowing

  • On-campus faculty research projects
