Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the longest-living and only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence
“I do hereby recommend to the present and future generations the principles of that important document as the best earthly inheritance their ancestors could bequeath to them, and pray that the civil and religious liberties they have secured to my country may be perpetuated to the remotest posterity and extended to the whole family of man.”

The Carroll Forum for Citizenship and Public Life aims to cultivate noble civic leaders. Inspired by the example of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence, we are committed to the mission given to CUA by Pope Leo XIII: “to give to the republic her best citizens.”
The primary program of the Carroll Forum is an undergraduate fellowship open to all students at CUA through an application and selection process. Carroll Fellows join an intellectual community devoted to civic dialogue and studying texts from the history of political thought and humane letters. We bring prominent guest speakers to campus, host family-style seminar meals, and embark on civic adventures to prominent historical sites in the D.C. area.
