As part of the Irish Studies Certificate, students are required to take part in a study abroad program in Ireland, or in an approved internship with a distinctively Irish focus. CUAbroad, Catholic University’s Office for Education Abroad, offers a number of options for undergraduate study in Ireland.

Students who wish to study in Ireland during the summer months are encouraged to apply to the Catholic University Irish Summer Institute. Led by our faculty, this program is run annually in Cork and in Dublin after the end of the spring semester. Some scholarship funding is available for this program on a competitive basis.

With the approval of the director of Irish studies, students may also receive credit for the certificate through Catholic University's Oxford Program, provided that the student’s individual plan of study clearly reflects an Irish focus.
